TSHWANE AUTOMOTIVE CITY (TAC) Tshwane Automotive City (TAC) is a spatial and economic development concept that is anchored by significant automotive industry player/s and supported by transport and logistics infrastructure. It is characterised by geographical clustering of industries, related to the automotive sector and typically supported by an anchor in the form of a major automobile or automotive parts manufacturer.
TSHWANE FREIGHT TERMINAL AND LOGISTIC HUB (TFTL) The TFTL Hub is planned to be a major road-rail freight terminal and inland logistics to facilitate cargo consolidation, intermodal transfer, and distribution within the logistics value-add environment. The terminal provides services such as storage, consolidation, depot, maintenance of containers, and customs clearance, all within a customs-controlled area.
TSHWANE AGRO-PROCESSING HUB The Tshwane Fresh Produce Market (“TFPD”) is the second largest market in South Africa, holding approximately 21% of the market share by turnover. TFPD generates an annual turnover of approximately R3 billion per annum. South Africa boasts of 17 fresh produce markets nationwide.

THE MANDELA MARKET WITHIN THE JOBURG FRESH PRODUCE MARKET The City of Johannesburg embarked on project to modernise and expand Africa’s biggest fresh produce market known as the Joburg Market. A new wing was established and named The Mandela Market. With this Market, the City seeks to attract private sector players to establish agro-processing facilities, cold rooms, and food logistic operations in the Gauteng province.
LANSERIA SMART CITY The Lanseria Smart City is an initiative taken by the Presidency, City of Joburg, City of Tshwane and Mogale City to develop a Smart City in the greater Lanseria node. The project involves the development of economic activities, residential areas, agricultural land use, modernised road and railway transportation, renewable energy, up to date infrastructure for cell phones, information networks and high-speed broadband connectivity to enhance the experience of residents, businesses and visitors.

FARM 2 FORK Farm2Fork (“F2F”) is a digital multi-layered platform that enables and unlocks various technologies and convergences of technologies and different industries. It is a collaboration of different industry specialists from the private, educational and government sectors. The initiative was born out of the desire to support disenfranchised growers and simultaneously support communities facing food shortages.

THE VAAL SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE The Vaal area of Gauteng has for decades been a hub for manufacturing, heavy industrial and engineering, and has identified land parcels set to be developed into a multi-site, multi-sector focused Special Economic Zone (“SEZ”). The aim of the Vaal SEZ is to grow the untapped potential in the agricultural, manufacturing, logistics and renewable energy sectors.

S&J INDUSTRIAL ESTATE S&J Industrial Estate allows for a planned industrial precinct on a site of approximately 160ha of developable land by providing a development that focuses on logistics, light manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution. The development will be released in phases. Developed in partnership between Abland and Redefine Properties (supported by City of Ekurhuleni).
EKURHULENI AEROTROPOLIS The City of Ekurhuleni, ACSA and other established private sector companies have embarked on Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis growth initiatives to stimulate passenger travel and air cargo growth. The 1 975 km2 Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis anchors its growth trajectory on the busiest airport on the continent and its manufacturing capabilities. The city seeks investments for its 30-year masterplan and is inviting private investors, funding institutions, property developers and commercial institutions to unlock the potential of the region.
ORTIA JEWELLERY MANUFACTURING PRECINCT South Africa is one of the largest producers of gold, diamonds, and platinum in the world, yet its jewellery manufacturing industry remains small. The Gauteng Industrial Development Zone (GIDZ) initiated the establishment of the Jewellery Manufacturing Precinct which became operational from 2021. The project involves the development of a varying range of facilities catering for the beneficiation of precious and semi-precious minerals and stones, diamond cutting, polishing, and trading of jewellery.
MEDICAL MANUFACTURING CLUSTER Gauteng Industrial Development Zone (GIDZ) is a SPV which is 100% owned by the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA). It was established to manage the establishment and operationalization of the OR Tambo International Airport SEZ (ORTIA SEZ). The Gauteng IDZ has identified 29 ha of land in OR Tambo International Airport Precinct (“ORTIA Precinct 2”) to set up a medical manufacturing cluster. This is an approximately R4,2billion (USD 289,6 million) development located adjacent to the OR Tambo International Airport.
