The Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) was established in 2000 by the Gauteng Provincial Government.Its function is to support organisations focusing on effective project delivery in support of Gauteng Industrial Policy and other strategic initiatives within the automotive sector in Gauteng.
The AIDC primarily focuses on being a centre of excellence with a specific focus on the following areas:
- Automotive Investment Facilitation
- Supplier Development
- Supply Chain Development
- Skills Development and Training
- Enterprise Development and Incubation Programmes; and
- A WorkHelp Contact Centre.
The AIDC’s vision is to be the preferred provider of strategic solutions and Government projects to the South African automotive industry and itsmission is to escalate the global competitiveness of the Gauteng province. It aims to support the province’s industrial development-related objectives and contributes to continuous growth, sustainable job creation and skills development within this sector.
The AIDC is at the forefront of innovation, and develops workable models,in conjunction with industry. Such innovations include the first Automotive Incubation Facility and the first Gauteng Automotive Learning Centre aimed at establishing and growing the private-public partnership model within Gauteng. The AIDC has also developed a world class concept in creating an automotive manufacturing hub through the Tshwane Automotive City Concept, as part of a long-term sustainability project with key strategic partners.
